She turned back, scooped up some of her wrapper, and left. She went straight to Abul’s house where she met Umma. Without even giving a proper greeting, they exchanged only brief greetings because she was eager to gossip—it was as if she was even chewing her tongue in anticipation.
After a while, she said,
“Hmmm, Hajiya Abeeda, are you aware? Abul Khairi is over there where they’re arranging what’s left of the men for him. So you’d better call them off, otherwise you’ll be bringing trouble upon yourself.”
Umma, who understood what Inna Kulu meant, smiled and said,
“That’s just like you, Kulu. Do you think we stop our children from their happiness? As long as what they want does not go against the Sharia, we support it. And if you’re talking about Rukayya, then by Allah, even if there is someone older than her and he says that is who he wants, we will look for her for him. Then he told her everything that happened between him and Inna. She smiled and said it was nothing and that she would handle her.
