Maamie became restless like a madwoman, completely confused and not even aware of herself.

She began feeling her body with her hands, saying, “Where is Ramlat? Ramlat, where are you? I can’t see you…”

Ramlat sat beside her on the edge of the bed and held her hands. “Aunty, I’m right here.”

Maamie cried and asked, “Look at me… do I still have a face?”

“You do have a face,” Ramlat replied.

Maamie continued anxiously, “Look carefully. Didn’t they deliberately separate my head from my body? Can you see my face right now? All I see is darkness, and I can’t even feel my head on my body…”

Ramlat sighed. “Maamie, you brought this on yourself. Uncle Deen didn’t even spare you, let alone me. Are you still insisting on your plan? You’ve already caused me two problems, and now even Yaya Roshan is about to slip away from me…”

Maamie asked sharply, “Are you saying you won’t marry Razhdeen? I swear, even if he has to cut flesh from my body every day, I will make sure he marries you—by force if necessary!”

Ramlat replied calmly, “Hmm! You’re the one in trouble. As for me, I’ll follow my own path so I don’t destroy myself.”

Maamie snapped, “So while I’m trying to secure a comfortable home for you, you’re throwing dust in my eyes?”

Angrily, Ramlat said, “Fine, Aunty Maamie. Do whatever you think is best.”

With that, she left.

Maamie shouted after her, “Oh, I will do what is best! When I go to Boka Matsagwal, Razhdeen will come crawling after you on his knees!”

She finished speaking, breathing heavily, her face badly swollen—almost as if the imprint of a hand could still be seen on it.

Yar Amana was seated at her usual gathering spot, holding her jita (a traditional string instrument), gently playing it.

Everyone around enjoyed the sweet sound of her music.

While she was playing, a large black SUV pulled up. Two young men stepped out, their faces covered with black caps, and headed straight toward Yar Amana.

Everyone was frightened at the sight of them—especially since some of them were carrying guns. She looked up at them, but before she could react, they grabbed her hand and lifted her up. She struggled, hitting their backs and kicking, but she couldn’t even scream.

Within seconds, the area erupted in chaos.

“Thieves! We’re in trouble! Someone help us! Armed robbers!” people shouted.

The men sped off immediately. They had been tracking her ever since she was taken from their boss; he had ordered them to find her at all costs. Today, luck was on their side—they finally caught her.

They drove deep into the forest with her, already covering her face with a black cloth.

Since Aunty Yolash arrived, she had been preparing Baiwar Allah like a bride, even though Baiwar Allah did not want the marriage at all. Still, Razhdeen’s face constantly filled her thoughts. Sometimes she felt like running to him and begging him to marry her.

She had no peace of mind. It wasn’t that she disliked Roshan, but her heart had chosen Razhdeen for her. He suited her better—but she felt helpless.

Meanwhile, Minal was at Razhdeen’s house with Mohandas. She cooked for him, though she wasn’t very skilled, and he often helped her. Sometimes he did the cooking himself.

It was pure love between them. They understood each other deeply. Mohandas had even agreed that after Roshan’s wedding, he would convert to Islam, and they would secretly get married if Abbah refused to approve.

Around 2:00 a.m., Roshan was in prostration, performing voluntary prayers. Razhdeen, on the other hand, was on his bed reading the Holy Qur’an.

As for Hajiya Maamie, she had already visited her traditional healer regarding Razhdeen and Ramlat’s marriage. He assured her that anything was possible—as long as she followed all the conditions he set.

He gave her a small bottle of perfume, instructing that Ramlat should apply it and then go to Razhdeen. Once he inhaled the scent, the job would be done—especially since it had been prepared using his name.
