He was shifting slightly and mumbling in his sleep, so much so that even the person beside him could hear everything. Sweat had beaded on his forehead, even though it wasn’t hot. In fact, a slight chill filled the air, like the misty kind mixed with a brisk wind that makes people shiver.

Surprised, the person next to him, holding a book, looked at him closely, then reached out to touch him and called his name—but there was no response. He put the book down, his heart growing heavier with confusion and fear. This wasn’t the first time his friend—and trusted companion—had been in such a state during sleep. Sometimes, one would have to interpret his condition almost as if he were possessed, though it wasn’t really supernatural. Whenever he fell into a deep sleep these past few years, he rarely woke without having entered this intense dream state. Even without him ever describing the dream to anyone, it was clear: it was a heavy, terrifying dream.

He shook him gently, then pulled back the army-green blanket and wiped the sweat from his face. A deep exhale escaped him, as if returning from a long haze, and then he let out a small sigh before slowly opening his eyes.

Mashallah! He saw eyes so beautiful that they hardly seemed masculine. At first, his friend, who was looking at him, stared back, then looked away and struggled to sit up, leaning against the side of the tent they were in. He wore an armless shirt that clung tightly to his muscular frame in army green, paired with three-quarter pants like those of a soldier. Even seated, his posture confirmed he was a real soldier—solid and unwavering. His physique was like that of a trained soldier, capable of facing any danger, especially in showing strength and determination.

His friend, noticing him sweating, shook his head slightly, then said with concern, “If I had the chance to press your lips and wake you by speaking, I would do it—just to understand what kind of dream has put you in this state all these years, Zak-Shadow. Look at the sweat, as if you’re on the battlefield—but in a dream. This surprises and frightens me.”

He gave a brief, sharp glance, then turned away, rising silently without speaking further, ignoring his friend’s gaze. I thought: oh, so in the army, there’s the SOLDIER and then there’s the TRUE SOLDIER. Just looking at this one, you can see why he earned the name Zak-Shadow, or better yet, Zak-Shadow ILIYA THE STRONG. True warriors are formidable, and defeating them requires careful planning.

In his calm yet decisive manner, he slipped on black slippers beside the bed, and without another glance at his friend, he moved toward the tent’s entrance. After crouching slightly, he stepped out.

The surroundings were vast wilderness—no signs of any village or human activity nearby. Except for a small military encampment they had set up, with just five tents. Three of the tents were large, enough to house many soldiers; the other two were smaller and evenly spaced. The three larger tents and the small one were close together, while the one Zak-Shadow had just exited was apart, under a massive, beautiful tree.

The area was enveloped in mist and cold air, making it difficult to see anything clearly at a distance, even the trees. The terrain was beautifully spread out, visually striking, and well-kept. Near the center, water lay still, a vital source for the wildlife. The water made it a gathering spot for animals, including dangerous ones—but the soldiers had set up camp there confidently, showing courage and discipline.
