Episode 1: Unspoken possessiveness

Wrapped tightly in her duvet because of the rain from the previous night that left the air cold, she opened her sleep-heavy eyes and slightly pushed back the duvet that covered her all the way to her head. She checked the wall clock and quickly sat up, saying in her soft voice, "SubhanAllah, it's already 6:30am? Oops... I woke up late today." Then she began reciting the supplication for waking up from sleep. She lowered her soft, fair feet, slipped into her indoor slippers, and stood up. She removed the night cap from her head because it had been pressing on her hair, wrinkling her face as she did so. This allowed her hair to cascade down to her lower back. She began making her luxurious bed, finishing in no time. She walked over to the wardrobe, pulled out a kimono, slipped it over the sleepwear she was wearing, and hurried downstairs. She went into the kitchen to prepare breakfast. She quickly made some sandwiches, which didn't take her long to finish. She boiled some tea, poured it into a tea flask, and took them to the dining table. Then she hurried back upstairs to take a bath.

She didn't bother applying body lotion; she simply slipped on a simpleabaya and picked up her office bag, slinging it over her shoulder. She turned to look at her face in the mirror, and noticing that her pink lips were beginning to dry, she applied a lip balm.

He was rushing through his preparations, wondering to himself because it was rare for him to run late. After stepping out into the parlor to adjust his necktie, he headed straight to the kitchen, scanning the space to see if there was anything ready to eat. Seeing signs that cooking had taken place, he moved on to the dining area. Luckily, he saw the sandwiches sitting on a plate covered with a mesh food cover. He pulled out one of the dining chairs, sat down, lifted the cover, and touched the flask. Feeling that it was full of tea, he poured some into a cup and began his breakfast with a calm mind, yet in a hurry. When he finished, he returned to the parlor to gather the things he needed to take to the office.

From the moment she started coming down the stairs, she kept her eyes on him, then looked away. He glanced at her briefly before looking away as well. She walked over to the dining area, looked quickly at the finished breakfast and the remaining empty plates, raised her head to look at him, and asked,

"Wait, is it the breakfast I just prepared that you ate?"

Without looking at her, he replied, "What are your eyes telling you? I ate it because I saw it was already prepared."

She let out a slight hiss because her temper flared terribly. Stealing a glance at him as he prepared to leave, she said,

"But this isn't right. Do you actually eat the food in this house, or are you just looking for trouble?"

Without looking at her, he said, "This is my house, and I will do as I please, so stop asking me whether I ate or not, I will do whatever I see fit."

She made a face, watching him until he walked out, and then she glared after him. She picked up her office bag and followed him outside, only to find that he had already gotten into his car. She walked toward her own car instead, but she was stopped by the sound of his voice.

"Don't you dare step out wearing those clothes. You're behaving like someone who isn't married."

She frowned, checked her wristwatch, and then looked at him, catching the fierce glare he was directing her way. Finding herself with no other choice, she turned around and walked back inside the house. Before long, she emerged again wearing a Hijab. Seeing her attire, he started his car engine. She walked toward her own car, but upon noticing that one of the tires was flat, she quickly hurried over to his car just as he began reversing.

She said, "Wait... my car has a problem, let me just ride with you."

He gave her a harsh look, drove past her, and left. She stood there with her mouth hanging open, and eventually decided to order a ride-hailing cab.

Sitting in her office working on the computer in front of her, one of her bosses walked in with a greeting on his lips. She raised her head to look at him, smiled, and said,

"Good morning, sir."

He said, "Morning, I hope you're done with yesterday's assignment?"

She opened her mouth slightly in surprise, then stood up and said,

"I'm so sorry, wallahi yesterday because of the gathering rainstorm I forgot, but I'm going to do the work now."

He turned around and left without saying another word to her.
