With that, they ended the call. Safna stared at the phone in surprise, wondering at Rashida’s attitude, how she had never once shown even the slightest jealousy over the fact that she was going to marry her husband. The moment Anty Shafa entered the sitting room, Safna put the phone down and said:
“Anty, do you know Zayyad’s wife said I should send her my wedding fabric so she can get one too?”
“Subhanallah! In all my life, I have never seen a woman as free from jealousy as that woman. Isn’t she the one who came with him the other day for the marriage discussion?”
“Yes, of course. In fact, she has come with him twice. She follows him here with the children, and they stay inside the house while we go outside to talk. When we finish, he calls her out and they leave together.”
“Allah is the Most Powerful. Honestly, if this marriage really happens, I believe you both will live together in peace.”
“Wallahi Anty, that is why I am not worried about us living in the same house. But Anty Maryam and the others keep complaining and telling me not to agree. Yet seeing how she treats me makes me feel there will be no problem if we live together.”
“Calm yourself and purify your heart. In Sha Allah, you will live in peace. By the way, the woman coming to groom you will arrive later, so stay prepared.”
“Okay,” Safna replied.
Anty Shafa sat down, breastfeeding her baby, and then Umma and Anty Maryam also came in. Anty Shafa told them that Zayyad’s wife had asked Safna to send her the wedding fabric. Anty Maryam clicked her tongue lightly.
“Honestly, Safna, be careful with that woman. I do not trust the way she is forcing closeness with you, especially since we already heard that she does not get along with her husband’s family at all.”
“Maryam, do not discourage Safna and break her heart. If you know you cannot encourage her, then stop bringing up such talk. I do not like it. “Hmmm, Anty, honestly I am tired of moving about on the road. I have been teaching for almost four years now. I just want to go into business instead, because Zayyad said he would give me capital to start a home business.”
