She came out dressed in a tied wrapper around her chest with a small hijab placed on her head. It was obvious she was about to take a bath.

She went into the kitchen and came back out, clicking her tongue in annoyance. Then she called out loudly:

“Sadiq! Sadiq!! Where are you?”

She stood there breathing heavily, holding a mirror and checking her face because of the powder she had applied.

She clicked her tongue again and walked toward Sadiq’s room. She entered and hit the bed where Sadiq was deeply asleep.

“Ahh! So you are still sleeping? You must wake up right now!” she shouted loudly.

Sadiq slowly sat up, stretching and rubbing his eyes, still not fully awake.

“Hey Zee, why do you always disturb someone’s sleep like this? This place is not a slave camp,” he said, clicking his tongue.

She replied angrily, “Sadiq, your neck is getting too stubborn. Get up and go and buy food stuff. It’s already 11 o’clock. Mom and the others are not at home. Do you want me to go hungry?”

Sadiq frowned and said, “Am I the only one in this house? Where is Faty? She went to the shop you always ignore. I’m not going. You know it’s weekend. Even if I’m more hungry than a mad person, today is my rest day. I have a headache and you are disturbing me like a ghost.”

She got angry and hit him lightly.

“By Allah, Sadiq, you will not eat anything in this house today. Let’s see. You know my nature—I am full of money today, so I will not listen to you. Don’t be disrespectful. You are even arguing with your sister.”

Sadiq got annoyed because he hated being woken up from sleep.

“Madam, leave my room before I throw you out, troublemaker!” he said.

She laughed and replied, “You will learn your lesson today.”

She left the room and slammed the door behind her.

She went to the water tap and washed her face. Then she returned to her room, took a mirror, checked her face again—it was glowing.

She smiled, wrapped her hijab properly, and left the house to go and buy ingredients for cooking.
