Greetings of respect to you all, my Wattpaddians and Hafnan’s novella group. Thank you for showing me true love; I also love you all so very much...

*PART TWO: THE FINAL UPHEAVAL*

CHAPTER ONE

Page 1-3

I had not even reached the doorway when suddenly I felt my head spin. At once, it seemed as if drums were being beaten inside my head, and I quickly held my head with both hands.

“Muido, are you alright?” I heard Anty Hajaar say. I did not answer at all, because a strange dizziness was trying to drag me down and make me fall to the ground.

I saw that standing was becoming difficult for me, so I stepped back and sat down hard on the edge of the bed.

“Bride of everyone, are you alright?” My friends said that as they got up and gathered around me, some sitting on the bed and others standing in front of me, waiting for me to explain what was troubling me.

Ash came into the room saying, “Oya Fateenah, girls, all of you get up and let’s go and do ho.......”

Seeing that they had surrounded me, and then hearing them ask after my health, made her fling off her wrapper and run over in a rush, pushing some of our friends aside, which gave her the chance to come close to me.

“Fateenah, what’s wrong? I saw you holding your head with both hands. Are you alright?”

Ash was filled with fear. In her heart she said, “Oh! Ya Allah, could it be that Fadima has found out about the man they have married her to, and that is why she has fallen into this state?”

Ash had been outside when the bridegrooms came in, and there she ran into Mahmood, whom she was told was Fadima’s groom. At once her stomach sank; she felt a strong need to use the toilet at that moment, as though she was about to loose stool on herself. Indeed, in haste she went to the toilet.

When she came out, she went back again, and at that time she came across Suhaima, who had also been called out so they could take photos with the bridegrooms. She, too, seeing him as her sister’s groom, rubbed her eyes well to confirm that it really was him.

Indeed, it really was him, not just someone who looked like him. Hurriedly, she went back inside to tell her elder sister, and that was when she met Ash.

Ash said, “You little sister, what happened? I saw you rushing like that, not even looking where you were going.”

Breathlessly she said, “Hmmm! Anty Ash, do you know who I saw as Yaya Fadima’s groom? Wallahi, that is Mubarak, her former boyfriend from Kano... Do you remember him? That is Engr. Mahmood, the well-known one, right...?”

Ash said, “Wallahi, I saw him too. Seeing him made me run to the toilet, because I suddenly felt diarrhea coming on out of fear...”

“But how did that happen? Did he love her all along? And how did he manage to win over his mother and marry her, after from the first time she saw us she did not love us, especially Yaya Fadima? Most confusing of all, where is this Mubarak that all this happened?”

Suhaima was speaking softly, filled with shock. Ash said, “We’ll get all the answers to these questions from that very man of the gathering... And...”

“Suhaima, what are you people standing here discussing? Won’t you come and take the photos? You’ve left people standing in the sun over there waiting for you?”

It was Anty Hajaar who interrupted their conversation as she was trying to go and call Fadima so she too would come out and take pictures.

Quickly, Ash pulled Suhaima by the hand and they slipped past Anty Hajaar and went outside. As they came out, they met eye to eye with Engr. Mahmood, and he gave them a pretty smile.

They looked at each other. Ash whispered into Suhaima’s ear. Suhaima smiled, then went to them to take photos. She told her not to dare show a surprise face or make the mistake of asking him how he managed to marry Fadima.

As for Ash, she went back to Fadima’s room, silently praying to Allah that Fadima would create some scene for Anty Hajaar, just as she had done some days before, because if she did that, there would be no way for her to come out and take photos. She knew for sure that Fadima, facing Mahmood as her husband, might sit still, and she would not want it said that Fatin had shown the world that she did not know the man she had been married to. That was why she kept praying that by the time she reached the room, she would find that Fadima had already created some scene. Indeed, she was almost overjoyed at seeing the condition Fadima was in, even though that was not what she had wanted. She would have preferred it if Fadima was going to have such a crisis, then let it be after they had taken her to Mahmood’s house, not here at the sight of him.

(Back to the scene.)

With difficulty I opened my mouth and said, “Ash, I’ve just been struck by a terrible headache...”

“Subhanallah...” she said, putting her hand on my neck.

We opened our eyes wide when she said, “Fateenah, wallahi your body is already hot; fever is about to overwhelm you...”

Anty Hajaar quickly stopped her words, having been standing there since before, watching the will of Allah unfold. She said, “Useless nonsense... just because I came to call you so you could take photos, that is when you’ll make up a fake lie like that...?”

Ash pursed her lips and said, “Aunty, what kind of words are you saying like this? Come and touch her body too before you deny what I’m saying...”

“Be quiet there! You shameless useless girl, from you to her, both of you are the same, carried in one flight because of bad character and lack of manners...”

She turned the direction of her words toward me. “As for you, Fadima, what you are doing no longer surprises me—it only frightens me, because I have never seen a bride like you. The day they brought your greetings, you fainted; today too, from being asked to come out and take photos, you’ve invented some illness. Or is it that you simply do not want the marriage at all?”

“Anty Hajaar, please just go and don’t add another sickness to what she already has...” Ash said, beginning to get angry at Anty Hajaar’s words.

“Yes!”
