Bakin Ruhi Part 1 Complete Hausa Novel
“She’s dead, Haule! Haidar is dead!” she answered me while clutching Haidar’s corpse. I do not know when I let out a scream, one that almost woke everyone in the house, including Aunty Aliya.
Before you could say anything, our room was filled with people. Everyone was crying. Goggo Lami went to hold Innarmu and console her. Hassana stood beside me and said, “Look, this is exactly how Husseina looked when she died.”
At once, the tears pouring from my eyes stopped, while my mind brought back the image of Husseina’s corpse. Even after she had been washed for burial, the blood that had come out of her nose had not been wiped away. Instead, it only increased, and before morning even her eyes were shedding blood as if they were crying. I could not say anything to Hassana at that moment. We just continued mourning Haidar’s death. Until dawn, not a single one of our fathers came to look into our room. It was only after daybreak that they came, and that too was only to carry away the corpse.
After Haidar was washed, Innarmu was allowed to see him one last time. I stayed close beside her to support her, and when she opened the shroud, I saw that his eyes too were oozing blood. A cry escaped Innarmu, and they quickly covered the body again and carried it out. At that moment, our house sank even deeper into grief and wailing as he was taken away.
While we were still in mourning, Hassana pulled me aside. I said, “What is it? Are you okay?”
She looked around first, then said, “Last night after we slept, I dreamed of Husseina. She told me to give you these clothes she died in and asked that you wear them.”
“Why?” I asked her.
She said, “Please, just wear them.”
I was about to tell her that I would, just as she asked, but then I suddenly fell silent and looked at Lubna, who had frozen in the middle of what she was doing. I smiled at her and said, “What is it, are you frightened? You have not heard anything yet. This is only the beginning. Just be patient, and little by little you will hear all of my story.”
Lubna said, “My whole body has gone cold, though I too have a very terrifying story of my own.”
Hajiya’s shouting interrupted our conversation. I quickly went out, apologizing to her, but it was as if I was only provoking her more, because she kept increasing the intensity of her scolding.
“If you people do not change, wallahi I will drive all of you away and bring in new workers. Look, up till now you still have not wiped the table.”
“I am sorry, Hajiya, but please do not send me away. I have no one,” I said, my voice trembling a little. But because Hajiya was someone completely lacking in human feeling, she came up with something else to say:
“Today you will not eat my food unless you buy yours with your own money. Just because you see that I pity you, you think you can be shameless with me.”
As soon as she finished saying that, she stormed out. I stepped back and sat on the chair because my head was pounding badly.

If there was anything that troubled me most, it was Hajiya’s threat that she could dismiss me. What hurt me even more was the way she humiliated me every single day simply because I was under her authority.
Lubna came out. She had finished her own work long ago because cooking was the only thing she handled. As for me, I welcomed guests and brought them whatever they needed, and I also washed the dishes and swept the restaurant.
“Go and do the washing, I will wipe the place,” she said gently.
I said nothing. I just struggled to my feet and went to finish my own part of the work. Then I came back and together we finished cleaning. Afterward, I locked everything up before we headed toward Hajiya’s house.
It was a bit far, so we had to walk quickly before we got there. We found her in the sitting room, crouched at the edge of the air conditioner, yet despite that she was still sweating heavily.
I gave her one glance and looked away, unlike Lubna who went closer and said, “Hajiya, are you not feeling well?”
In a voice that clearly sounded unwell, she said, “Ulcer is disturbing me again. Go and bring me that medicine you usually give me so I can drink it.”
Lubna looked at me briefly before saying, “It is actually Haule who has it, not me.”
“Then go and get it for me.”
As soon as I heard that, I hurried to the room set aside for us workers. I was in the middle of removing my clothes when Lubna entered holding a cup and said, “Pour it in so I can take it to her.”
With resentment, I said, “I refuse to pour it in. Am I the one she is talking to like that?”
Lubna burst into laughter and moved a little closer to me. She said, “Is it not something for you to even be proud of — that someone like Hajiya is drinking the saliva of a servant? If only she knew what the medicine really was, she would never take it, with how much she hates poor people. I swear.”
I smiled a little, then spat my saliva into the cup of water. Immediately it began to bubble and move and even change color.
Lubna raised her eyebrow and said, “You are the real Hajiya, honestly. And please, have mercy and stop putting our Hajiya in that condition, or she may die and we will get into trouble.”
“Go on and take it to her instead of standing there talking,” I said, and went into the toilet to bathe.
When I came out, I found that Lubna had brought food for us. I smiled again and said, “She said she would not give me her food.”
“Since she still served yours, then leave it and come, let us eat,” Lubna said.
I changed my clothes first, then I sat down and we ate rice and soup and drank cold water. After that, we sat talking until she stood up and said, “Let me go and prepare tomorrow’s soup ingredients. Get ready, because when I come back, you will continue telling me your story.”
I just smiled without saying anything.
I was about to lie down when Lubna came in as if she had been thrown inside. I said, “What is it? Are you alright?”
She said, “That evil man is there in the sitting room with Hajiya, turning the cup I gave her water in. He says he wants to know what kind of medicine this is that made her recover instantly.”
I can keep translating the next part in the same style.
