The fierce barking of Lucky, Winston, and Copper — Michael’s dogs — was extremely loud, so loud that everyone in the house was startled. Romeo was in his own section, working, while Dad had gone out to give Pasto emergency help so that he would not die.

The way Copper and the others were barking badly frightened Tga and the others, because they had never heard them bark in such a loud and alarming way before. Tga himself went into their room and tried and tried, but they refused to keep quiet. He could not understand what was wrong with them, nor did he know what to do with them, because he was not someone who cared much about dogs, let alone knew their behavior.

Romeo was working on his laptop, but his heart was pounding hard, and the barking of Copper and the others was disturbing him. Before God, they had never barked like that before. He ignored them at first because he did not suspect anything serious. He assumed Michael must have upset them. As for his racing heart, he blamed it on James. He continued with his work, biting his lip.

Brady rushed into the room at full speed and headed straight for Romeo, nudging him repeatedly with his mouth and pulling at him as if urging him to come and see something. Seeing Brady like that made Romeo realize that something was wrong, because Brady usually stayed out of everyone’s affairs — he did not even meddle with Copper and the others. That was how Romeo had trained him. If Brady made any move over something, then it was definitely worth checking.

Romeo stood up and followed Brady outside to see what was happening.

He found Tga and the others standing stiffly in the middle of the compound, silent, all of them staring at Lucky’s room. The moment they saw Romeo, they stepped back, their blood seeming to drain from their bodies, and they fell completely silent.

Romeo went straight into Lucky’s room. The moment he entered, they began jumping around him, clinging to his body and barking furiously at a frightening volume. Of course Romeo was very familiar to them, because by now Lucky and the others had spent at least twelve years with them. Michael had bought all four of them when they were puppies — Brady was the oldest, then Lucky, then Copper and Winston. Since Brady was older and also more handsome, Romeo took him for himself and left Copper and the others with Michael. These dogs did not cry or bark like that without a very serious reason. He knew their nature very well.

Abruptly Romeo turned and looked at Tga and the others.

“Where is Michael?”

They began looking around in confusion, as though searching for Michael. Only then did they realize Michael was not there. Romeo quickly came out of the room. Lucky tried to follow him, but he quickly shut the door and said,

“I said, where is Michael? What happened to him?”

At once, fear appeared on everyone’s face there, because they heard Romeo ask what had happened to Michael and where he was. Ever since they heard the terrifying barking of Copper and the others, they already knew something was wrong, but they had not imagined that something might have happened to Michael.

Romeo knew Copper and the others would never bark like that for no reason. Dogs are different from human beings — they have sharp sight that reaches farther, and their eyes can see things human eyes cannot.

Quickly Romeo went back into the house and headed to Michael’s section to check on him, but when he got there, Michael was not there. He returned to his own section, took his phone, and called Michael’s line. It kept ringing, but Michael did not pick up.

He then took his laptop and entered Michael’s number to track where he was.

As soon as he entered the number, it showed that Michael’s phone was at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. His deep blue eyes widened sharply and seemed to shine even brighter. As far as he knew, Michael had only just been in this house a short while ago — he had even slapped him. So what on earth had taken him to the hospital?
