It was a strange, unsettling laughter. Instantly, she lost her sanity.

She too began to laugh, clapping both hands together and shouting, “Junaid! Damusa! Oh Damusa, catch him here!” She kept repeating it while laughing uncontrollably. All signs showed that Uma had gone mad.

Ayush began to recite prayers, saying, “Uma, what is this? Please, stop!” Her heart was filled with deep sorrow as she moved to hug her mother. In her madness, Uma pushed her aside, shouting, “You are Damusa! Don’t deceive me, you are Damusa!” Then she suddenly ran toward the roadside.

Ayush ran after her, crying and saying, “Umma, where are you going? Please come back!”

Before Ayush could say another word, a small brown Jeep sped toward them. Without realizing it, it ran over Umma. Her head struck the tarred road with a terrible impact, and within seconds blood flowed as if it were poured out.

“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un.” It was as though Umma had been waiting for death; her soul departed, and her eyes remained wide open.

Ayush let out a piercing, heart-wrenching scream and ran to her mother, who lay motionless on the ground.

She knelt beside Uma, shaking her. “Please, Uma, wake up! Don’t die and leave me. If you die, I don’t know where I will go!” She cried hysterically. “Oh my Uma, please wake up!”

All the while, the driver watched her through his rearview mirror. He did not even attempt to step out. Instead, he slowly began to drive away.

In anger, Ayush stood up, picked up a large stone, and hurled it at the back of the car. The rear glass shattered instantly, and the driver’s head hit the steering wheel because of the sudden brake he slammed.

His anger flared up. He kicked the car door open forcefully and stepped out, breathing heavily.

Ayush stood before him and shouted, “What kind of beast are you, that you don’t value human life? Fool! Oppressor! You hit my mother as if you killed an insect!”

Unable to tolerate her words, he grabbed her by the neck with one hand and lifted her into the air. His eyes began to change color.

She was terrified, her eyes wide open as though death itself was before her.

Suddenly, he felt a shocking sensation run through his body, as if he had hugged a live electric wire. It felt like fire was burning through him.

With a cry, he threw her away. He almost collapsed himself, barely managing to hold onto his car. In panic, he rushed back into it and sped off. Only he knew the kind of pain he was feeling, and his mind was beginning to fail him.

Ayush staggered to her feet, nearly falling, and dragged herself to where her mother lay. She collapsed on top of her. Her breathing suddenly stopped, and at that very moment, she fainted.

Meanwhile, the driver, not in his right senses, lost control of the car. It veered off the road into the bush and crashed into a huge tree. His head struck violently, and he too lost consciousness.
