That side fell silent. There was no movement from anyone or anything until morning came. Bahar remained in Ayanah’s room, and that gave Sakinah a lot of peace and reassurance.
She placed Bahar’s head on her lap, and they spent the night like that in silence, without either of them saying a word. She could only let out soft sighs, feeling terribly cold, while the warmth of Bahar’s head spread through her as though it were her Abaas lying on her lap, just as he used to do in the past when they were still before their parents, living with dignity, comfort, and noble roots, not like now when all of them had lost their foundation and their lives had been scattered by the world and separated by different destinies.
Bahar too remained quiet, withdrawn in herself, with all kinds of thoughts running through her mind. That was how they passed the night until dawn.
It was the dawn prayer that finally stirred Bahar. Up till then, even Leylah had not been able to sleep. When she heard Bahar coming out, she raised her heavy, half-closed eyes and looked toward the door, then let out a deep, painful sigh and closed her eyes again as Bahar left the sitting room.
Bahar went to Maa’s room and entered, heading straight for the bathroom. Her movement woke Maa, who sat up and got down from the bed, her head heavy from not having slept early because of the state they had all been in throughout the day and night.
Bahar was not inside for long before she came out and looked at Maa. Maa also looked at her, then held her hand, kissed it, stroked her head, and only then went into the bathroom herself for the prayer that had been called from the mosque of the palace.
Bahar also changed her clothes into a long prayer abaya and stood to pray.
Almost at the same time, both she and Maa finished the prayer. They made a lot of supplications and recited their morning remembrances. When they were done, Maa looked at Bahar and began comforting her again, advising her with gentle words about patience and reliance on Allah in the orphanhood that Allah had destined for her. Then she went on to explain again who Ayanah truly was to Abaas, and who Abaas was to Ayanah. So now that Ayanah knew who Bahar really was, she assured her that in the whole world there was no one who would love her the way Ayanah would love and cherish her, just like her own child.
They stayed in the room and did not come out until ten o’clock in the morning, because it was only then that a deep, heavy sleep finally took hold of Bahar.
At ten o’clock, Maa Sakinah came out and went straight to Ayanah’s bedroom, where she found her fully dressed. Her eyes were badly swollen and red, and her face too had become flushed.
She began by apologizing to her for hiding the truth from her. Then she gave her own advice about the greatness of surrendering to Allah’s will in every destiny He decrees, and also congratulated her on the fact that NUAB was Bahar’s husband, something Abaas had testified to before leaving this world.
Ayanah could only let out a warm, lifeless sigh, close her eyes, and nod her head. She could not say anything at all.
Tenya entered the room and packed the very expensive luggage for the journey Ayanah was to make that morning with Sultan Yasar, without Sultan NUAB knowing anything about it yet, because he had not slept all through the night, waiting for any kind of call from their side.
At half past ten, Sultan Yasar secretly sent for Aslam and informed her that they too should prepare, because their flight would also leave for India that same day. He had already arranged everything for them without anyone knowing, because he understood all that they were going through, and he also did not want anyone else to know. So he made sure first of all that they would leave quietly in secret. Then at eleven o’clock, his plane took off with Ayanah on board, without NUAB knowing. Ayanah kept trying to call his phone, but the calls did not go through, and she was not in the state of mind to keep trying or to send him a message. In fact, she did not want to speak at all. Her eyes and her soul longed for nothing with more intensity than to reach her homeland, her town, her home, and to be before the graves of her parents and her brother.
