Chapter 2 of 2

This time, everything in the sitting room had returned to normal, exactly as it had been before, only the color of the decorations had changed.

“JJ! Happiness is trying to turn your brain upside down. Control yourself.”

He began nodding his head like an old lizard, desperately trying to convince himself, and then, as if pushed by something, he hurried toward the bedroom, glancing back at the sitting room as he went.

His hand almost got cut while trying to close the bedroom door and lock it because of how badly he was shaking.

Enduring the pain in that cut hand, he leaned against the door and let out a deep sigh, the kind that comes when someone escapes something by the narrowest chance.

He remained like that for about a minute before he was finally able to steady himself a little, breathing in broken gasps.

Because the bedroom was designed in such a way that you had to pass through a little corner near the door before reaching the center, due to the bathroom by the side, he had enough chance to wipe away the sweat pouring from him and force himself to calm down before taking another four or five steps forward.

The bedroom was large, and the furniture was beautiful. The bride’s parents had also done their part well. He tried not to look around too much because of what he had just left behind, so he went straight toward the bed, certain that he would find his shy and calm bride there.

He sat down and said,

“Sorry, my Love, for leaving you alone. I was just sending away those troublesome boys. You know when MB and his friends are around, a person’s mouth never gets to rest—”

He could not finish the sentence because of what his eyes suddenly saw.

There on the bed was a huge twisted black snake, decorated with bright reddish markings that shone like electric bulbs. This was not a creature from folktales or games. Not even in Indian films about snake people had he ever seen such a huge snake.

His whole body began to shake violently like a spinning top, until he started sliding off the bed toward the floor without even realizing it.

Just as he was about to hit the ground, he felt someone catch him.

“Are you okay? What happened? Why are you shaking like this and trying to fall to the floor?”

It was the calm voice of his bride entering his ears, while her soft palm, the same hand whose touch had remained in his heart since he held it at dinner the day before, was now holding him again.

Almost at the same time, both of them fell to the floor, because he had already lost balance completely and his full weight had come forward.

The moment she landed against his body, he let out a terrible scream like someone suddenly woken from sleep with cold water. He twisted and convulsed with fear, his entire body trembling.

Softly, she cried out,

“Ah! D, you will make me break my awazzu.”

Before today, whenever he heard her sweet voice, he used to feel like the luckiest man in the world. But today, instead of that, his body only shook more and more, and sweat covered him completely as if he had just come out of a bath.

He sprang up suddenly like someone startled awake and began looking around wildly.

There was absolutely nothing on the bed.

Instead, the bed was only beautifully arranged in a special way, with pillows lined up neatly on it as though—

The passage cuts off there. If you want, I can continue in the same smooth English style for the next part too.
